“Do not fear, for I have redeemed you; I have called you by name, you are mine.”
- Isaiah 43:1
The Open Heart is a Christian community initiative born from the desire to bring spiritual healing, inclusion, and love to queer Christians and their families in Egypt and across Arabic-speaking communities.
We believe that faith and sexuality do not have to be in conflict. We offer resources, theological reflections, and spiritual support to help LGBTQ+ individuals and their loved ones navigate the often-painful intersection between spirituality and identity.
Our mission is to create a space where no one has to choose between their faith and their authentic self. We believe in a God whose love is wide, inclusive, and unconditional — a love that invites everyone to come as they are, and be as they are.
Together, we seek to challenge harmful narratives, raise awareness about the dangers of conversion therapy, and amplify voices that have too long been silenced. We stand for hope, growth, and a future where all are welcome at the table.
The Open Heart was born out of a simple but powerful truth: that God loves us all — and that can never be changed.
However, learning and accepting this truth has often demanded a long and painful journey, echoing with voices of rejection and judgment, especially from the church and from people who themselves have accepted Jesus as their Savior.
For years, many queer Christians in Egypt and Arabic-speaking communities have faced rejection, isolation, or attempts to change who they are — often in the name of God. Faith is often the number one reason why people enter conversion therapy to try to change their gender identity or sexuality. Some have spent six to eight years or more undergoing this process, hoping to “fix” themselves. Many endure deeply painful and harmful experiences simply because they believe that God does not love or accept them as they are. Many of us have lived these stories ourselves or have walked alongside friends and loved ones carrying that same pain.
We created The Open Heart to offer something different: a space where queer believers, families, and allies can encounter the wide, unconditional love of God — the love we have found to be healing, fulfilling, and transforming. A love that softens hearts and opens them to God and to one another.
Our hope is to nurture a future where faith communities become places of welcome, where families find understanding, and where every heart knows it is beloved just as it is.
